Harpenden's Charity Christmas Gift and Craft Fair is an annual event that takes place every November, and this year is our 38th year.
This year we hope to have more than 50 stalls, including many new exhibitors as well as favourites from previous
years. Our Gift Fair offers the people of Harpenden and surroundings the chance to get ahead with Christmas
shopping in a relaxed and friendly environment. In addition to the shopping we offer a Cafe which is
open both days, selling delicious homemade cakes, hot meals and Fairtrade drinks. And the Gift Fair is not
complete without a visit to our tombola, with an amazing selection of fabulous prizes kindly donated by local
businesses.
Most importantly Harpenden Circle runs the Gift Fair on an entirely voluntary basis and all profits go to charity. We are close to choosing our new charities to support this year. Last year we supported Grove House Hospice and Children with Cancer
Grove House Hospice
A diagnosis of cancer changes lives - and not just for the person who is coping with the symptoms,
treatments and side effects, but also for their families and friends as well. A diagnosis of cancer can bring
with it feelings of fear, isolation of loneliness. Many people try to cope alone, not wanting to burden loved
ones with their problems. Grove House is there for those people. Grove House provides free care for all those
living in our community who are coping with the distressing effects of life threatening illness. Grove House
provides support where and when it's needed, from time of diagnosis through to end of life nursing care,
both at home and in the hospice. "As soon as I walked through the door and was greeted by a smiling receptionist,
I knew I'd come to the right place. I felt like I was wrapped in cotton wool, people genuinely cared about how
I was feeling and most importantly had time to listen to me." The hospice relies on fundraising to raise
the £1.5 million it needs to continue to provide its vital services to our community.
Please help us to raise this money.

Children with Cancer
Leukaemia (a cancer of the blood) is the most common cancer in children, affecting up to 500 children
every year in the UK. Incidence of childhood leukaemia appears to have increased steadily throughout the
20th century at a rate of approximately 1% per year. Advances in treatment and care means that today four out of
five children survive. But leukaemia still claims the lives of 1 in 5 children diagnosed in the UK. And those who
survive may be left with serious, long-lasting side-effects as a result of the intensive treatments used to save
their young lives. CWC are working to develop treatments which are not only more effective, driving up the
survival rate, but which are less punishing, reducing the risk of the side-effects associated with current treatments.
Whilst funding research into causes and treatments, CWL support families through welfare programmes and campaign on their behalf.
CWC receive no funding from the government and rely entirely on donations from the public.
